Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences that support children’s growth and learning outcomes.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and curiosity among children.
- Observe and assess children’s development and progress, maintaining records and providing feedback to parents or guardians.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and learning materials.
- Establish positive relationships with children, parents, and guardians, maintaining open communication and addressing concerns or inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, health, safety, and sanitation standards in the classroom and play areas.
- Foster a positive classroom atmosphere by modeling appropriate behavior and guiding children in conflict resolution and social interactions.
- Participate in professional development activities and stay updated on best practices in early childhood education.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in Early Childhood Education, CPR, and First Aid.
- Demonstrated passion for working with young children and creating a nurturing learning environment.
- Strong understanding of child development principles, play-based learning, and age-appropriate teaching methodologies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Tasks
- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Storytelling
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
- Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
- Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
- provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
- Knowledge of licensing regulations
- Establish guidelines for behaviour
- Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
- Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
